Referred to nowadays as American Traditional Tattoo Style, these designs are said to have been derived from the style of Cap Coleman. "Old-school" style was made popular by the likes of Bert Grimm, Ed Hardy, Lyle Tuttle, and last but not least Sailor Jerry Collins. There are so many more people that contributed and you can learn more about many of them if you visit CW Eldridge's Tattoo Archive.
The styles is known for bold lines, deep blacks, and solid fields of color. It adheres to the old mantra of "If it's bold it'll hold!"
