This Northwest Coast tattoo design is a black and red drawing of an owl The owl is commonly thought of as a sign of wisdom in many cultures. This is so in Northwest Coast culture as well since it was a Shaman's helper, but could also be an omen of death if it flew over your head, or a punishment to be turned into a lesser owl if one was selfish or misbehaving. Some license has been taken by adding the skull to the stomach to show the death omen aspect. This particular design is circular.
